INTRODUCING HOLLOW KNIGHT

Heya Guys,

For my first post, I thought I’d spend a little time introducing the world and style of Team Cherry’s new game, Hollow Knight.

Hollow Knight sends the player on a journey through a forgotten kingdom deep underground. Its a world full with fossils, mystery and bizarre bugs.

Many of these bugs are overcome by an affliction, one that causes them to attack on sight. But not all have fallen prey. Throughout the caverns several beings remain at their everyday tasks unaware of the dangers around, and generally eager to talk to travellers that happen upon them.

One traveller and the hero of our game, is the enigmatic Hollow Knight, a wanderer drawn to the kingdom. He carries with him only an old nail, his primary weapon against the dangers. Search deep enough in the kingdom’s depths and you may uncover clues about his own connection to the land.

The world of Hollow Knight is presented in a simple, near-monotone style. Animation is traditional 2D. With this more basic style, what we lose in detail we gain in efficiency. It means any new enemies, friends or environments are reasonably quick to create. So expect a diverse, animated cast and varied locations to explore.

In future posts, I’d like to focus on specific areas of the game, its foes, its zones and its story elements. Even though we’re at an early stage there’s already lots to show and we’re looking forward to talking more about it. As we progress, we’ll strive to keep the game’s development really visible, and we’d love to hear your thoughts on it all!
