TEAM CHERRY IS BACK! NEW YEAR, NEW OFFICE, NEW TEAM MATE, NEW ENGINE!

Happy New Year everyone!

Two laptops! What is this madness.

That’s right, it’s the incredibly futuristic year of 2015 and Team Cherry is still working hard on Hollow Knight! It’s been a little while since our last update (we’ve been super busy, we swear) so we’ve a bunch of news for you.

First off, a brand new addition to the Team Cherry family! No, Ari and William didn’t have a baby (although we suspect the technology might not be too far off). We’ve brought the incredible and multi-talented Dave Kazi into the fold!

Look at him go! The scope of Hollow Knight expanded a fair bit during the Kickstarter, so we decided to bring Dave in to help us build the game to the highest standard possible, in a decent amount of time, and with all the cool content we promised. Dave’s an experienced programmer, project manager and all-round good guy. He’s passionate and focused and it’s worth getting extremely excited because thanks to him getting involved Hollow Knight is going to be a much better game!

Second off, we’ve moved into some sweet new digs in the heart of Adelaide. Take a look at the brand new Team Cherry office!

We’ve got everything we need in here: Computers, TV, sofa. William’s Mum even brought in a bunch of food for the pantry!

And third off, we’re in the process of migrating development of Hollow Knight over to a new engine: Unity. The prototype of Hollow Knight was developed in Stencyl, which is a fantastic game-making tool that allows you to build games extremely quickly without any prior experience (seriously, if you want to try and make a game but don’t know where to start, give it a shot).

As the game and team have gotten bigger though, and with the additional Wii U release (and possibly other systems??) we decided to move it over.

What does that mean to you, the player? Well, not a massive amount, but at the very least it does allow us to employ a bunch of nifty graphical effects, so expect a visual upgrade before release. We’re currently mid-way through porting the game over and we’ll keep you updated on a whole bunch more of the technical stuff as we move along.

One last note! We’ve recently sent out a Hallownest Lore document to all our Creator Backers ($75 backers and above) and we’ve already received some brilliant ideas for characters and bosses (Get ready to battle the Lobster Lancer!). We’ll be sharing some of them in the months ahead.

If you’ve pledged at one of those tiers and haven’t received the Lore Doc yet, please let us know at info@teamcherry.com.au or through a Kickstarter message.

That’s it for now! From now on, we’re also aiming to get updates out more regularly – we’re aiming for about two a month, unless something super amazing happens and we just can’t wait to tell all of you straight away. You can also keep up with us on the ol’ Social Media – check out our Twitter and Facebook here!

Speak real soon,

Team Cherry
